The Thank You Gift

The gift that just kept on giving

Not being Homestay hosts for very long Brian and Terry love to tell the story of the surprise gift that landed on their door one day from a very thankful Homestay Guest and the much appreciated family for taking such great care of their 17 year old boy for 8 months. José from Mexico had just said his good-byes two weeks before, when a call came from the immigration office that a parcel had arrived for them, but it must stay in quarantine for several days and could they please come down and fill out the appropriate paperwork.

A bit confused, they headed down to immigration only to find out that they had graciously inherited a new pet from their overly thankful Homestay Guest. Yes! A happy wrinkly puppy sat waiting for this family to take it home and love and care for it for the rest of its (waggy-tail) life to remember their time with José.

With many expensive trips to the vet that required numerous essential surgeries, this family was not prepared for such a financial burden.I am sure that the grateful Mexican family had no idea what kind of pressure they had placed on Brian and Terry. This gift was a well-intended loving expression of their appreciation … BUT .....
